Default Ranger Nente and Hunter's Shot (post searing)

Nente is wanting me to trade in my level 11 stalker to get Hunter's Shot. I don't think so.

A few questions...

1) I suspect I can get Hunter's Shot just from starting the quest, but if I ever talk to Nente again, is he going to automatically take my stalker or will I get an approval question again?

2) Where else can I get Hunter's Shot?

My Ranger did Nente's quest for this. Simply accept the quest, talk to him again and say you'll give him your pet. You get the reward, but he does not take your pet away. At least he didn't take mine.

What happens if you ditch the tame animal skill, does he ask you the same thing?

I have to say I think this is the lamest quest I've seen so far, and I'll just buy hunter's shot. I thought it would be fun to go all the way to level 20 with my pre-searing wolf and right away I run into a quest that expects me to give up Fido, I just hope there aren't any quests that are dependent on this one...

yeah, I was all worried too, but then ditched beastmastery and figured I'd give him my pet. Then he didn't take it, and I got the stuff anyway. It's the easiest quest there is.

Oh sure everyone rub it in...

*IF* there was an option to put my wolf in cage so I could use him again after the quest that would be great. But since that is not the case, I stand by my comment that holding back hunter's shot from people that dare to be just a little bit different is lame lame lame...

(yes I talked to him again, but I have a wolf not a stalker so it doesn't work)

Just go find a Stalker, which isn't far from him, and use Charm Animal on it to finish the quest. He will not take it from you and you can Charm a wolf again once you find another one. Or following what I did as listed below:

What I don't like about this quest is that he will give you Charm Animal as a reward. Don't I need Charm Animal to complete the quest? At least that is how it seemed at first. Then I found a Stalker when I didn't have CA in my hot bar and killed it instead. The next time I spoke with him, after zoning first if that makes any difference, he gave me the reward. So to preserve the species all you really have to do is to kill one of the species. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

How did you kill it if it's a friendly?

It doesn't stay friendly once you shoot an arrow into it. Just because it's friendly doesn't mean that you can't attack and kill it. Give it a shot. Go out in any zone that has friendly mobs and start attacking. Moa Birds are good for this.

Gotcha, thanks for the info

..and I just accepted the quest from Nente and he won't let me finish it right then and there. I'm thinking it's because I named my pet and he's checking for a "Melandru's Stalker" (which I can't name my pet that because it's too long a name).

I'll try killing a stalker and see what happens.
